"I tell you, you are the greatest composer known to me." Perhaps my favorite movie of all time. The film spans the life of the protagonist, Antonio Salieri, who has desired, since a child, to be a great composer. He makes a "deal" with God if He will grant him this only wish. Salieri is content with his talent and status in court until a musical rival comes to Vienna, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Salieri brims over with jealousy when he hears Mozart's music and realizes God has blessed Mozart with the gift of music, not him. Salieri becomes obsessed with conspiring against Mozart, God's musical "incarnation", and eventually kills him. Only in the end does Salieri realize he has not defeated God, for Mozart's music endures while Salieri's fades into obscurity.
"Houston, we have a problem." True story of the moon-bound mission that developed severe trouble and the men that rescued it with skill and dedication.
Mankind finds a mysterious, obviously artificial, artifact buried on the moon and, with the intelligent computer HAL, sets off on a quest. Based on a short story by Arthur C. Clarke, 2001 is the kind of film that some people will love, and others will hate.
"Sure would be an awful waste of space." A wonderful story sure to enthrall anyone who has ever gazed at the night sky and pondered the existence of extraterrestrial life. Dr. Ellie Arroway, after years of searching, finds conclusive radio proof of intelligent aliens, who send plans for a mysterious machine. Her personal voyage will take her beyond theory, beyond knowledge, beyond experience, to the realization that true vision is ultimately the union of fact and faith.
Wildly charismatic. Impossibly brilliant. Totally rebellious. For the first 20 years of his life, Will Hunting has called the shots. Now he's about to meet his match. A janitor at MIT, his gift for mathematics is discovered, and a psychiatrist tries to help him with his gift and the rest of his life.
A college student needing money agrees to "babysit" a blind man, but the job is not at all what he anticipated. Col. Frank Slade (the blind man) has a very special plan for the weekend. It involves travel, women, good food, fine wine, the tango, chauffeured limousines and a loaded forty-five. And he's bringing Charlie (the student) along for the ride.
A chilling, bold, mesmerizing, futuristic detective thriller. Deckard is a Blade Runner, a police man of the future who hunts down and terminates replicants, artificially created humans. He wants to get out of the force, but is drawn back in when 5 "skin jobs", a slang term for replicants, hijack a ship back to Earth. The city that Deckard must search for his prey is a huge, sprawling, bleak vision of the future. This film questions what it is to be human, and why life is so precious.
"You think they'll have that on the tour?" A great movie based on a great book by Michael Crichton. Scientists clone dinosaurs to populate a theme park which suffers a major security breakdown and releases the dinosaurs. In the sequel, a research team is sent to the Jurassic Park Site B island to study the dinosaurs there while another team approaches with a different agenda.
"Denial's not just a river in Egypt anymore, is it?" A fun action movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. When a secret agent learns of his wife's extra-marital affair, he pursues her and uses his intelligence resources in a job he kept secret from her.
An excellent adaptation of the Tom Clancy novel of the same name. Terrorism gets personal for Jack Ryan when he foils an IRA terrorist attempt on the royals.
High suspense under the high seas. On a US nuclear missile sub, a young first officer stages a mutiny to prevent his trigger happy captain from launching his missiles before confirming his orders to do so.
"All things are ready if our minds be so!" Kenneth Branaugh delivers a stirring performance in the title role. King Harry's speech before the battle on the field of Agincourt is not to be missed!
"I'll be back." A shape-shifting cyborg is sent back from the future to kill John Connor before he can grow up to lead the resistance; a protector is sent, too.
"Game over man! Game over!." It all started on a mining ship, investigating an SOS, that crashes on a distant planet. The crew discovers some strange creatures and investigates. In the second installment, The planet from Alien has been colonized, but contact is lost. This time, the rescue team has impressive firepower, but is it enough? The third and fourth movies aren't nearly as good as the first two.
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
I know that most of these aren't considered "great films", but I can sit and watch any of them any time. What can I say? I like Star Trek and I can't help myself."Use the force, Luke." These works by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg redefined the science-fiction movie genre. Luke Skywalker leaves his home planet, teams up with other rebels, and tries to save Princess Leia from the evil clutches of Darth Vader. While Luke takes advanced Jedi training from Yoda, his friends are relentlessly pursued by Darth Vader as part of his plan to capture Luke. Han Solo is imprisoned by Jabba the Hutt, the Empire is building a new Death Star, and Luke hasn't finished his Jedi training.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Unfortunately, agents of Hitler are also after the Ark. Indy, and his ex-flame Marion, escape from various close scrapes in a quest that takes them from Nepal to Cairo. The second story in the series takes Dr. Jones to India, where he agrees to look for a village's lost magic stone and in doing so, stumbles on to a secret massive Thuggee cult. In the final installment, the daring archaeologist and his father search for the Holy Grail and fight the Nazis.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
"So if you do doubt your courage or your strength, come no further!" King Arthur and his knights embark on a low-budget search for the Grail, encountering many very silly obstacles. If you see only one Python movie, make sure it's this one!"The door to the mind is open." A cool movie about integrating technology with the human brain.
"Inconceivable!" A funny, funny movie by the Meathead - Rob Reiner. It's a classic fairy tale, with swordplay, giants, an evil king, a beautiful princess, and yes, some kissing.
"I am God here!" Can technology make us better? Watch and find out. Based on Stephan King's work about a retarded man who is turned into a genius through the application of computer science.
A bizarre flik from Terry Gilliam of Monty Python fame. A convict, sent back in time to stop a devastating plague, is sent too far back and is hospitalized as insane.
"Big ba-da-boom!" The Fifth Element - there is no future without it. A fun movie that is very well made.
